Hi, I’m Dr. Martin Nielsen, Critical Care Specialist at Tri-City Medical Center. According to the
American Cancer Society, approximately 1 out of 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. All women can get breast cancer, even those with no family history of the disease. A woman’s best protection is early detection. That means practicing regular breast self-exams, and seeing your physician for a clinical breast exam and mammogram every year, especially for women over 40. All mammograms are not the same. Ask if your mammogram will be performed using digital or analog technology. Studies have shown that digital mammography has some advantages, particularly for womenwith dense breast tissue.
