Residents can speak out on high-speed train routes at public hearings

Posted: Updated:
San Diego residents are getting the chance to weigh in on proposed routes for California's $40-billion high-speed train network.

Public hearings are scheduled this week.

The state plans to route 220 mph trains from Los Angeles to San Diego via Ontario, Riverside and Escondido.

The trains are expected to make the trip from Los Angeles' Union Station to downtown San Diego in only one hour, 18 minutes, compared to the nearly three hours it takes Amtrak service through San Diego beach cities.

The trains are scheduled to begin running in 10 years.
