ENCINITAS, Calif. (CBS 8) - Dozens of protestors rallied outside Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas after the removal of a popular doctor.
On Friday, Dr. Robert Biter had his obstetrician privileges revoked by the medical staff at Scripps. He can still practice as a gynecologist.
Patients and supporters of Dr. Biter -- who specializes in natural birth -- are demanding that he be brought back.
"I think it's a smear campaign by Scripps to get rid of Dr. Biter because he doesn't make enough money for Scripps because he doesn't do enough C-sections and he doesn't do enough interventions. And I think it makes a lot of other doctors uncomfortable," child birth educator Sheri Manelli said.
A spokesperson for the hospital told News 8 the basis for Dr. Biter's removal is a confidential matter.
