Help us bring 500 heroes home for the holidays!
San Diegans helped make the holidays happy for our injured warriors.
The 2012 Warrior Foundation Radiothon took place Friday morning on Talk Radio 760 KFMB.
This year's live, on-air event raised nearly $250,000 through the generosity and kind spirit of San Diego residents, including a $100,000 donation from the Doyle Foundation.
Once again this year, 760's Mike Slater helmed the on-air effort, "All I did was ask our friends and neighbors to give $10 a month. And at the end of six hours, collectively we had enough to send 500 heroes home for the holidays."
760 KFMB and the KFMB Stations have held the Radiothon since 2004, raising more than $9 million to help seriously injured military personel who are going through rehabilitation in the San Diego area.
Slater spoke with many veterans, including Sgt. Chris Lawrence.
Lawrence received major injuries in Iraq, including the loss of his leg. He says that the effort made by the warrior foundation helps to keep things in perspective, "to spend a little time with your family, reminds you of what you did and why you did it."
San Diegan's can still donate through the station's website, 760kfmb.com.
In 2004, 760 KFMB-AM set-out on a simple mission - to raise funds to provide razors to a handful of local warriors who had been injured while fighting the ongoing war against terrorism. Eight years later, the mission has expanded and so has the need to accomplish more with the help and generosity of 760 KFMB-AM listeners.
Inspired by the stories of our military men and women, San Diegan's made the 2011 edition of the 760 KFMB Warrior Foundation's Annual Radiothon a massive success. Over $400,000 was raised following the all-day efforts of 760 KFMB's on-air personalities. Since its inception, the Warrior Foundation has managed to raise close to $9 million. This year, 760 KFMB is once again proud to spearhead the effort to raise money and help our injured warriors for the holidays.
760 KFMB-AM would also like to offer a special THANK YOU to our sponsors, each of whom have played an important role in helping to make this year's radiothon a success. Thank you RAPID TRANSMISSIONS, WEST ESCONDIDO AUTOMOTIVE AND TRANSMISSION, MOR FURNITURE FOR LESS, POSTAL ANNEX+, STUDIO DINER, MIKE'S BBQ, CUBIC CORPORATION, MIDWAY JEEP CHRYSLER DODGE RAM, WALLBEDS "N" MORE and AGA, Inc. for your time, effort and donations.
And most importantly, thank you San Diego and the 760 KFMB-AM listeners for helping to send our warriors home for the holidays. We hope to be able to send all the warriors home this year. Warriors need to wake up in their own beds and be with their own families during the holiday season. With your help we can make it happen!
