I didn't compare anyone to Hitler.
What I did argue this morning was that politicians from every era, nation and culture have used emotion to manipulate and convince people to hand over their freedom and liberty in the name of more freedom. This ALWAYS results in a more powerful state and a less free people.
In the example of 1933 Berlin, liberty was democratically handed over in the name of "protection" and "remedying the distress of the people".

ps, One thing I did learn while visiting Berlin was this whole period in German history was NOT that long ago. The people of Berlin are still living the consequences of this recent era. And to not learn from their mistakes - as the poster in my 8th grade history class read - we will be doomed to repeat it.
