Joining the CEOs of Carl's Jr, Home Depot, Wynn Resorts, Whole Foods and many others, the CEO of Energy XXI gave Obama the business:

"if the government would get out of the way, from a regulation standpoint, and let us [XXI] do what we do good you'll see us continue to hire and grow this economy."

This morning we talked about where the term "Laissez-faire" capitalism came from and what it means (Laissez-nous faire = let us alone).

We also talked about the encounter between Alexander the Great and Diogenes from around 300BC. In the words of Jeremy Bentham, 1843:

"...security and freedom are all that industry requires. The request which agriculture, manufactures, and commerce present to governments, is modest and reasonable as that which Diogenes made to Alexander: "Stand out of my sunshine." We have no need of favour—we require only a secure and open path."

Sarah Palin also had a great speech the other day when she spoke against crony capitalism:

"There is a name for this. It's called corporate crony capitalism. It's not the capitalism of free men and free markets, of innovation and hard work and ethics, of sacrifice and of risk. No, this is the capitalism of connections and government bailouts and handouts . . . and influence peddling and corporate welfare."
