If you use any tobacco products, don't bother applying to the Baylor Health Care System. They said they will not hire any smokers. Period.
They say smokers are generally less productive than non-smokers and their health coverage is too expensive.
One of the employees said, "We all have the right to smoke a cigarette."
Yes. You do. But you don't have a right to a job.
And if you have a right to smoke, doesn't the employer have a right to trade with whoever they want? (For the best analysis on rights, please read or listen to this speed entitled "Healthcare is not a right". It's absolutely brilliant in every way.)
Anytime someone hires an employee, it is a major investment. Isn't Baylor just making sure they make the best investment possible?
