This is not a critique of the President. He will say whatever it takes to get elected. This is a critique of the American poeple. The fact that THIS could get someone elected president is troubling:
"The one thing that we absolutely know for sure is that if we don't work even harder than we did in 2008, then we're going to have a government that tells the American people, ‘you are on your own'. If you get sick, you're on your own. If you can't afford college, you're on your own. If you don't like that some corporation is polluting your air or the air that your child breathes, then you're on your own. That's not the America I believe in. It's not the America you believe in."
Think about this: The prospect of taking care of yourself is so terrifying to so many people, that they will vote for anyone who promises that you will never be subjected to this burden.
At 7:00 we dissected this Thomas Jefferson quote (page 441):
"I have sworn upon the altar of God, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man."
A little Ralph Waldo Emerson from his 1841 short story called "Self-reliance":
Trust thyself: every heart vibrates to that iron string. Accept the place the divine providence has found for you...Great men have always done so...And we are now men, and must accept in the highest mind the same transcendent destiny; and not minors and invalids in a protected corner, not cowards fleeing before a revolution, but guides, redeemers, and benefactors, obeying the Almighty effort, and advancing [against] Chaos and the Dark.

And at 6:00 we talked about John Morgan who wrote the introduction to Alexis de Tocqueville's Democracy in America:
"He [de Tocqueville] found that the American people, through their chosen representatives who were instructed by their wisdom and experience and were supported by their virtues—cultivated, purified and ennobled by self-reliance and the love of God...His great commentary, like those of Paul, was written for the benefit of all nations and people and in vindication of truths that will stand for their deliverance from monarchical rule, while time shall last."

The purpose of the American experiment is the achieve the full potential of man. Man is only capable of reaching his full God given potential in a free society. Don't give up your liberty. Once you give it away, it's gone.
