What is your goal?

At 8:00 this morning I made the suggestion that we look beyond the November 6, 2012 election and make sure we focus on a much bigger goal than getting Obama out of office. Now that we're one year away, I think today is a good day to pause, refocus and ask, "What is the goal?"

Some of the quotes we used this morning:

Proverbs 27:17:

"As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another."

Romans 5:

"...we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope."

James 1:2-4:

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything"

Charles Dickens, Great Expectations:

Suffering has been stronger than all other teaching, and has taught me to understand what your heart used to be. I have been bent and broken, but - I hope - into a better shape

Benjamin Rush, 1787 (Please read this entire speech, I feel bad only quoting parts of it, the whole thing is brilliant):

There is nothing more common than to confound the terms of the American revolution with those of the late American war. The American war is over: but this is far from being the case with the American revolution. On the contrary, nothing but the first act of the great drama is closed...

I am extremely sorry to find a passion for retirement so universal among the patriots and heroes of the war. They resemble skilful mariners, who, after exerting themselves to preserve a ship from sinking in a storm, in the middle of the ocean, drop asleep as soon as the waves subside, and leave the care of their lives and property, during the remainder of the voyage, to sailors, without knowledge or experience.

And like the mail, the news never stops. Let's keep absorbing the news, but never lose sight of our fight for freedom and liberty.
