The controversy over a cross located at Camp Pendleton is growing. Now, a second group is asking for the memorial to be taken down.
The 13 foot cross was erected on Veterans Day to serve as a memorial to fallen service members. But recently a group called the "Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers" has demanded the cross be torn down. Now the Washington-based "Americans United for Separation of Church and State" has contacted the base commander asking for the cross to be taken down.
Both groups say the religious symbol does not belong on federal land. No lawsuit has been filed and Camp Pendleton officials have yet to decide the future of the landmark.
