People tend to believe that the stuff on the shelves of Wal-Mart is everything that is manufactured. And because all of the stuff at Wal-Mart is made in China, it's easy to conclude that everything is made in China, and nothing is made in America anymore.

You hear it all the time.

But that doesn't make it true. America has more world manufacturing output share than Brazil, Russia, India and China combined.

How about this fact of the day (from the great Mark Perry), the combined sales revenue from the top 500 American manufacturing companies is greater than the GDP of the entire country of Japan - the world's 3rd largest economy. That's just 500 American companies.

And the sales revenue from the top 10 manufacturing industries (petroleum, computers, aerospace, machinery, etc.) is greater than the GDP of Germany.

This morning, we talked with a local manufacturing company that manufactures scopes for the military to prevent friendly fire and subway fare collector machines. Random, right?

Cubic Corp. started in San Diego in 1951. They now have 8,500 employees worldwide. Not only are they still headquartered in San Diego, but their 96 year old founder still runs the show. We talked with the VP this morning:
