SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities Saturday released the name of a 23-year-old woman who was fatally injured when she jumped from an overpass into the path of a car on Interstate 805 in Kearney Mesa.

Witnesses saw a woman jump from the southern side of the Balboa Avenue bridge and land in a southbound lane of Interstate 805 about 12:55 p.m. Friday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Officer.

She was struck by a 2010 Toyota Prius registered to a Los Angeles resident, and that driver was not injured, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Art Athans.

Athans said it was unclear if Gallo died as a result of the fall or from being struck by the car. The Medical Examiner's Office has yet to release her cause of death.

Three of the freeway's four main southbound lanes remained closed for about 90 minutes following the incident, Athans said.
