Young boy, 3, suffers serious head injuries after being hit by car

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 3-year-old boy was struck by a car Saturday as he walked into the street in front of his family's house in San Diego's Point Loma Heights neighborhood near Ocean Beach, police said.

The boy was playing in front of the house in the 2100 block of Catalina Boulevard, near Udall Street, about 11:15 a.m., according to San Diego police Office Frank Cali.

The boy walked out into the street and was hit by a Toyota sedan that was headed north, Cali said.

The child was taken to a hospital with what were initially thought to be minor injuries, but a follow-up at the hospital determined the boy sustained a serious head injury, Cali said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, Cali said.
