SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A Lincoln Park man was behind bars Tuesday for allegedly getting drunk at a City Heights tavern while his 11-year-old son waited outside in a van for hours.
Jose Ramon Hernandez, 46, who was found with a baggie containing a white powder, was booked on suspicion of misdemeanor willful cruelty to a child, habitual drunkenness in the presence of a minor and felony possession of a controlled substance, San Diego police Lt. Andra Brown said.
A woman made made an anonymous emergency call about 11:55 p.m. Monday and reported seeing a seemingly upset boy in a parking lot at El Uno Bar, 3412 University Ave., she said.
The boy, who was placed in protective custody at the Polinksky Children's Center in Keany Mesa, told police he had been there for several hours, was scared and needed to go to the bathroom, Brown said.
"(Hernandez) was obviously unable to care for the safety of his child," she said.
