(CBS 8) - It was a year ago when six-year-old Max Shacknai died after falling from a staircase inside the historic Spreckles Mansion in Coronado.

He was under the care of his dad's girlfriend Rebecca Zahau, who police say killed herself two days later out of guilt.

Reportedly there were ground rules between Dina Shacknai and her ex-husband Jonah regarding third-party supervision of their son.

Now Max's mom is creating a foundation to keep kids of divorced parents safe.
