Reid Park officials say the elephant named Connie was euthanized Thursday morning by San Diego Zoo veterinarians and animal care staff.
They say Connie had recurrent urinary and reproductive tract infections and her condition continued to deteriorate over the last few weeks.
Connie was moved along with her longtime companion "Shaba" in February to the San Diego Zoo's Elephant Odyssey. The care center is specifically designed for aging and ill pachyderms.
