LA MESA (CNS) - A 28-year-old San Diego man was in custody Thursday on suspicion of using a machete to rob a convenience store in La Mesa, police said.

Danny Gregory Molestina is suspected of robbing the Circle K at 8899 La Mesa Blvd. shortly before 10 p.m. on July 18, according to La Mesa police.

The robber walked up to a store clerk, brandished a machete and took a cash register drawer containing money. The clerk was not injured.

Molestina was arrested July 22 by Chula Vista police in connection with an unrelated robbery, La Mesa police said, noting detectives later linked him to the Circle K robbery.

Molestina was booked the George Bailey Detention Facility and held in lieu of $225,000 bail, according to jail records.
