SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A BMW crashed through a guardrail and fell from the third level of Fashion Valley Mall's parking garage, which sent one of its two occupants to a hospital with minor injuries, San Diego police said.

A man and a woman in the BMW were backing out of a parking spot at the mall at 7007 Friars Rd. about 1:15 p.m. when another driver who was passing through blasted the horn, and the driver moved back into the spot, according to San Diego police Officer Frank Cali.

The male driver started to back up again and another driver honked. The BMW's driver then hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, which caused the car to crash through the guardrail, Cali said.

The car's front end struck two parked vehicles on the way down and the car rolled onto its roof, Cali said.

Firefighters rescued one person from the vehicle, a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher said.

The passenger complained of arm pain and was taken to a hospital, Cali said.
