Four arrested at DUI checkpoint in Chula Vista

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - Officers arrested four motorists on suspicion of drunken or drugged driving, impounded 10 vehicles and issued 39 citations during a combined DUI/drivers license checkpoint and citywide saturation DUI patrol operation, according to Chula Vista police.

There were 2,114 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint in the 600 block of Palomar St., which ran from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and the saturation patrols continued until 2 a.m., according to a Chula Vista police dispatcher.

Of those vehicles, 678 were flagged for inspection and 10 drivers were evaluated for possible DUI violations, according to police.

Officers arrested four drivers on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, including one driver who was involved in a serious injury collision near the checkpoint and one driver who attempted to flee the checkpoint location, according to police.

Seven drivers were cited for driving on a suspended license and 14 others were cited for driving without a license. Officers impounded 10 vehicles and also issued another 18 citations for various vehicle code infractions, according to police.

The operation was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety Administration, according to police.
