SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego police detectives are trying to track down potential victims of a Lemon Grove sex offender arrested last month on charges of indecent exposure.
An officer found disturbing evidence in a vehicle belonging to Santiago Cordero, 43, following his arrest July 26 for allegedly exposing himself to a woman in the 4500 block of University Avenue.
Officers found a video camera inside Cordero's vehicle that contained footage of a school-aged volleyball team, video of Cordero having sex with a female of unknown age, and peeping-Tom-type video of a woman taking a shower.
Inside the vehicle, officers also found a brown, female's wallet containing identification for a 31-year-old mother and her 8-year-old son.
Investigators have been unable to locate the mother and son, identified as Maria A. and Luis A. in a search warrant obtained by News 8.
Cordero has a criminal history going back 16 years, including convictions for attempted rape by force, burglary, sexual battery and indecent exposure, court records show.
California's Megan's Law web site says Cordero lived in an apartment in the 7500 block of North Avenue in Lemon Grove. Officers searched the apartment but no items were recovered because the apartment had been cleaned out, according to the search warrant.
Cordero currently is being held in jail on a single count of indecent exposure, as well as a probation violation from a 2011 sexual battery conviction. He has pleaded not guilty and is set to appear for a status hearing on Aug. 30 in downtown court.
Cordero's public defender is on vacation and could not be reached for comment.
Aug. 17, 2012 Update:
News 8 was able to contact the woman identified as Maria A. She and her son are safe. Maria reported that she does not know Santiago Cordero and that she recently lost her wallet containing her identification. She is now in contact with investigators to reclaim her property.
