SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An unidentified man was fatally struck by a southbound Amtrak train near Bay Park Sunday, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department reported.
The fatal accident occurred at Ashton St. and Morena Blvd. around 11:14 a.m., according to the sheriff's department.
A passenger on the train told authorities the pedestrian appeared to be standing on the tracks when he was struck by the train just before the Old Town Amtrak stop, according to a 10News report.
Station personnel reported the train was delayed for more than an hour while sheriff's department investigated the fatal accident.
Deputies found a man underneath the train when they arrived at the scene. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Amtrak train service was temporarily halt in both directions for the death investigation, a dispatcher said.
