EL CAJON (CNS) - A 51-year-old woman was run over by a truck she was attempting to climb out of, police said Sunday.

El Cajon Police officers and fire paramedics responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in the 300 block of Orlando St. in El Cajon at 12:07 p.m. Saturday.

Witnesses said the woman was inside a pickup truck and attempted to climb out while it was driving northbound on Orlando, according to El Cajon Police Lt. Frank La Haye.

"The female was seen hanging on the passenger side of the vehicle when she fell and was struck by it," La Haye said. "The driver of the pickup failed to stop at the scene."

El Cajon Fire Paramedics were unable to revive the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

La Haye said the unidentified suspect and his vehicle are being sought by police.

The vehicle is described as a 1969 to 1972 Chevy pickup, light blue with a white stripe and a faded white camper shell. The vehicle may have some type of construction sign on the driver's door.

The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of relatives.

The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information is urged to call El Cajon Police Department Traffic Division at (619) 441-1632.
