Poway High students seriously hurt in horrific wreck

POWAY (CNS/CBS8) - A collision at a Poway intersection injured four Poway High students Wednesday afternoon. Two of the victims, who are brothers, were critically injured and suffered major head trauma.

A fifth person was less severely injured in the two-vehicle wreck, which was reported about 2:30 p.m. at Community and Twin Peaks roads in Poway, sheriff's Lt. Kelly Martinez said.

Emergency crews had to free one person from the wreckage. An air ambulance was called in to take at least one of the most seriously injured patients to a trauma center, while several others were transported by ground ambulance.

A green Ford Escort driven by a 17-year-old boy was going west on Twin Peaks Road with three teenage passengers when he swerved over the center line into eastbound traffic, striking a white Toyota Prius, said sheriff's Cpl. Todd Murphy.

The Escort then slid sideways into a maroon Ford F-150 driven by a woman with her 12-year-old sister as a passenger. The Escort driver and his 15-year- old brother were critically injured with major head trauma.

The brothers who were critically injured in the crash have been identified by friends as Matt and Mikey Bryant. The two other teens in the Escort were Christian Isaly and Joey Casteloes.

The other drivers had minor injuries, Murphy said.
