SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Hyundai Hope on Wheels and local Hyundai dealers has awarded Rady Children's Hospital with a $250,000 research grant.
The hospital is one of 41 recipients of Hope on Wheels' 2012 Hyundai Hope Grants in honor of national Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
The Hope Grant will be used to support research focused on developing a novel and targeted therapy against a devastating childhood cancer.
"Pediatric sarcoma is actually very poorly studied and there's very limited support. It's very important that Hyundai recognized that there's a special need in this area and actually gave us the support to pursue this question," cancer biologist Dr. Jing Yang said.
The kids affected by cancer placed colorful hand prints on a canvas and a 2012 Hyundai Tucson to commemorate their brave battles with the disease.
