SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A major drug bust Friday involving four tons of cocaine, and the arrest of nearly two dozen alleged smugglers.
The U.S. Coast Guard will detail what it calls a major "counter-drug patrol operation," in a press conference Friday.
News 8 was able to get a first look at some pictures of the busts involving the Coast Guard Cutter Morgenthau.
It recently returned from a counter-drug patrol in the eastern Pacific Ocean with more than four tons of cocaine seized in a variety of operations, where air and sea patrols worked to apprehend what is called a "go fast boat" off the coast of Panama.
Twenty-two suspected smugglers have been detained during five separate drug seizures. Capt. Gregory Burg, Commanding Officer aboard the Morgenthau, says these seizures are the most effective way to keep these drugs off American streets.
The U.S. Coast Guard is expected to hold a press conference sometime Friday morning.
