SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A suspect who is accused of kidnapping a couple in La Jolla and forcing them to withdraw money at an ATM pleaded not guilty Friday.
Prosecutors say 29-year-old Miguel Torres Espinoza jumped in the victim's car, pointed what appeared to be a handgun at them and demanded money.
"He then took one of the victims ATM cards out of his wallet and demanded he drive him to an ATM where he withdrew more money," a prosecutor said.
It happened Tuesday night in a shopping center parking lot on La Jolla Mesa Drive. The gun turned out to be a replica.
After dropping Espinoza off, the couple called 911 and police arrested him a few blocks away.
A preliminary hearing is set for September 27.
