SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The weather was perfect Sunday for the Surfrider Foundation's "Paddle For Clean Water" at the Ocean Beach Pier.
Hundreds of surfers from across San Diego hit the water and paddled around the pier to raise awareness about the need for clean water and healthy coastlines.
The paddle for clean water has been a local tradition for the past 21 years.
"We have about a thousand people that are going to get in the water today to paddle around one of the longest piers in the state of california to raise awareness for clean water. That shows the spirit of people who live in san diego and how proud we are of our coastlines," Haley Haggerstone of the Surfrider Foundation said.
Sunday's event also featured a beach clean-up and performances by local bands.
