SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A pit bull is dead after a vicious attack on a man with a knife.

It happened Sunday night in the 3600 block of 37th St. in City Heights. The man was walking his labrador when he passed a house with an aggressive pit bull.

Police say the pit bull broke through a wooden fence and bit the man's arm. He pulled out a knife and stabbed the pit bull. It ran home and later died.

The man is being treated for a dog bite. The lab was not hurt.

It's not clear if any charges are pending.
