SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Violent anti-American protests across the Middle East, sparked by an anti-Islam movie are all too familiar to author Salman Rushdie, whose controversial book, "The Satanic Verses" caused a similar uproar more than 20 years ago.
Saturday, Rushdie shared his story at UCSD.
Rushdie's book was condemned by the Ayatollah Khomeini, sparked violent protests and even threats on his life.
Now, the author has written about the turmoil in his new memoir.
