SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - It may be the last weekend in September but it feels like the middle of summer.

Sunday was the first day of a heat wave that's moving into San Diego and local beaches also saw some big surf.

Anticipating the larger than normal crowds, there were extra lifeguards on duty.
