ESCONDIDO (CNS) - Fire destroyed a family restaurant in Escondido early Monday but no one was hurt, authorities said.

The fire at Spires Family Restaurant at 1215 E. Valley Pkwy erupted around 3 a.m., according to Escondido fire Battalion Chief John Tenger. It took crews several hours to contain the blaze, he said in a statement.

The structure was a total loss, with damage estimated at more than $700,000, Tenger said.

The cause was under investigation.
