SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Homicide detectives Tuesday were investigating the fatal stabbing of a man in San Diego's Logan Heights area.

Officers responded at 5:54 p.m. Monday to a report of a fight in the area of 22nd Street and Imperial Avenue and found a man down on the sidewalk suffering from stab wounds, said San Diego police Lt. Jorge Duran. He was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Duran said.

A second male was found at the scene and taken to a hospital, where he was treated for facial injuries and released, Duran said.

A preliminary investigation revealed that both victims were involved in a fight, he said. The surviving victim and his girlfriend were being questioned by homicide detectives, but it remained unclear this morning what precipitated the fight, according to Duran.

The deceased victim's name was being withheld pending family notification, he said.

Anyone with information about the stabbing was asked to call San Diego police homicide detectives at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
