CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A preliminary hearing was scheduled to begin at the South Bay Courthouse Tuesday for a former tutor at a Chula Vista elementary school and volunteer football coach accused of repeatedly molesting a young relative.
Carlos Isac Ojeda is charged with five felony counts of sexual abuse against a minor.
A judge will decide at the end of the preliminary hearing whether there's enough evidence to order the 20-year-old defendant to stand trial. If convicted, Ojeda faces 15 years to life in prison.
Ojeda is suspected of sexually assaulting the child at least four times, starting in July 2011, according to Chula Vista police Capt. Gary Ficacci, who declined to disclose the alleged victim's gender or relationship to the suspect. The captain would only say the child was under 10.
At the time of his arrest last June, Ojeda tutored on a contract basis at Lauderbach Elementary School. The alleged victim is not a student at the school or a member of the team Ojeda coaches.
Ojeda was being held at the South Bay Detention Facility in Chula Vista in lieu of $800,000 bail, according to jail records.
