2-alarm fire destroys Escondido McDonald’s

ESCONDIDO (CBS 8) - A fire at a local McDonald's sent everyone inside the restaurant rushing for the exits overnight.

Flames broke out just after midnight at the Escondido McDonalds on the corner of Valley and Ash Street.

When employees noticed the lobby area filling up with smoke, they ran out and called 9-11, but soon realized a co-worker was missing:

"I called 9-11, they asked if there was anybody still inside. We couldn't find my friend Donna, so the manager and I ran back inside. She had already gone out the side door," said employee Leanna Reyes. "They got here, cut a whole in the roof, and there were just flames everywhere."

Crews battled the fire, with flames as high as 100 feet, for two hours.

A few employees were treated for minor injuries and smoke inhalation.

The restaurant is a total loss.
