Alaska Airlines starts direct flights from San Diego to Orlando

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Alaska Airlines launched its first nonstop flight from Lindbergh Field to Orlando, the airline and the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority announced Friday.

The once-a-day, five-times-a-week service began Thursday, officials said.

"We're thrilled to have nonstop service to Orlando," said Thella Bowens, president and CEO of the airport authority. "Orlando was our largest passenger market without service, and we're so pleased that Alaska will fill that void."

The central Florida city is home to the state's theme parks, like Disney World and Universal Studios.

The outbound flight is a red-eye aboard a Boeing 737-800, departing San Diego at 10:35 p.m. Pacific Time and arriving in Orlando at 6:30 a.m. Eastern Time. The return leg leaves Orlando International Airport at 8:05 a.m. Eastern Time and gets to Lindbergh Field at 10:40 a.m. Pacific Time.

Orlando is the fourth destination from San Diego added by Alaska Airlines this year, said airline vice president Joe Sprague.

Tickets are available for purchase on or by calling (800) 252-7522.
