SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A 22-year-old college student is in the hospital and on life support Tuesday after a bizarre accident last week at San Diego State.

The incident happened on the campus of SDSU Friday, and now some students are being credited for helping to keep him alive.

Campus police say the young student was walking down a corridor by the Prospective Students Center when he lost his balance, bumped into a column and fell to the ground, striking his head.

When other students came to his aid, it was apparent that the victim was lifeless. The student had no pulse no heartbeat.

SDSU police and paramedics rushed to the scene and tried reviving the young man. He was rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital with CPR still in progress.
