NATIONAL CITY (CBS 8) - Hundreds of elementary schools in National City have new school supplies Tuesday, courtesy of the National City Police Department.
Officers and community leaders joined forces Tuesday morning to deliver boxes of paper, pencils, binders and other supplies to the 10 elementary schools located in National City.
Due to state budget cuts, some schools lack basic supplies, so the department is happy to help.
''And yes, there are budget cuts throughout the state of California, and those are things that are way beyond us. What we can do is start working community by community, and we've chosen to do that with our community here," Sgt. Julian Villagomez said.
Target, Walmart and several private organizations located in National City donated the school supplies.
