SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Hundreds of people headed to the Veterans Museum and Memorial Center to honor military heroes Sunday.

The American Red Cross of San Diego and Imperial Counties invited all who came out to help spread cheer by participating in the "Holiday Mail For Heroes" drive.

Military deployment and hospital stays keep many local troops away from their families during the holidays, so this is a small way to send encouragement, gratitude and cheer.
