Fake water workers burglarize home in La Jolla

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Police are searching for two suspects who posed as city water workers and burglarized a home in La Jolla Wednesday.

At around noon, the suspects knocked on a door in the 7500 block of Hillside Drive, saying they needed to enter the home to check their water. About an hour later, the residents realized they had been burglarized, and called police.

Police are warning all residents to be wary of people coming into their homes.

"When they have a knock at the door and they believe it's a city worker of any type, and they have any questions about that, particularly if there are no sort of credentials shown with a photo on it, then they need to not allow that person in their house. Stop and call the City of San Diego," SDPD Lt. Mike Hastings said.

Police say the city is able to verify that information over the phone.
