Parolee will stand trial for ex-girlfriend's death

Posted: Updated:

VISTA, Calif. (AP) — A parolee has been ordered to stand trial on charges that he beat his ex-girlfriend to death at her Oceanside home and killed her dog by stuffing it in a freezer.

U-T San Diego says a judge on Thursday ruled there's enough evidence to try 29-year-old Tyree Paschall for murder and animal cruelty.

Prosecutors claim he beat to death 47-year-old Crain Conaway in January. They believe he stuffed her Chihuahua-mix pet into a freezer when it tried to come to her aid during the beating. The dog apparently froze or suffocated.

Paschall, who has previous convictions for kidnapping and assault, faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
