SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An auto-theft suspect led California Highway Patrol officers on a high-speed road chase Friday from Los Angeles County to Chula Vista, where he was arrested at gunpoint along with a passenger.
The pursuit began in Norwalk shortly before 12:30 p.m., when CHP personnel tried to pull over the driver of a stolen black Toyota Solara, according to the state agency.
The driver refused to yield and sped off to the south, soon entering Orange County on Interstate 5 as officers gave chase.
The suspect fled into San Diego County at speeds exceeding 100 mph, merging onto I-805 in the Sorrento Valley area.
After running over a tire-flattening spike strip officers had laid across the roadway in his path, the suspect slowed and pulled to a stop just south of State Route 54 and surrendered along with his companion. The arrestees' names were not immediately available.
No crashes or injuries were reported.
