First duty-free store to open Monday at Lindbergh Field

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The first duty-free store at Lindbergh Field is scheduled to open on Monday.

The shop will be located in Terminal 2, which offers flights to Canada, Japan, Mexico and the United Kingdom. Passengers will be able to purchase chocolate, liquor, perfume, tobacco, and other common duty-free products, according to the airport.

Duty-free retail outlets sell merchandise exempt from certain taxes and fees, under the condition that they are taken out of the country.

According to Travel+Leisure magazine, some airports include duty-free stores that sell extravagant clothing, high-end cosmetics and perfume, and fine wine. Among the brands listed by the publication are Dior, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, and Prada -- mostly found at the major airports in London, Paris and Rome.

Duty Free Americas San Diego LLC will operate the business under a seven-year contract approved by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority in July.
