SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A local filmmaker and a small team of friends are hoping the commercial they created for the Doritos ad contest will air on Super Bowl Sunday.
Doritos has chosen their entry to be among the top 40, out of thousands, and online voting is now underway.
The ad is called "Disillusioned Doritos," and it has been chosen by Doritos as one of the 40 best Super Bowl-worthy entries.
San Diego filmmaker Ryan Parker directed and edited the 30-second ad and came up with the concept.
Parker says, his original script was five minutes long, but the coveted Super Bowl Doritos commercial slot is only 30 seconds.
Parker says, his goal was to get back to the basics of filmmaking and directed, shot and edited his piece without the special effects and big budgets he's seen in other entries.
The winner this year gets $1 million and a gig with director Michael Bay to work on the next Transformers movie.
