SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Construction is underway at NAS North Island for a brand new helicopter facility.

Dozens turned out for a groundbreaking ceremony at the Fleet Readiness Center Southwest.

The $100,000-square-foot building will house a maintenance, overhaul and repair facility for Navy and Marine Corps choppers.

The nearly $50 million project is scheduled for completion in June 2014.
