Mother accuses postal worker of pepper spraying child

POWAY (CBS 8) – A Poway mother is accusing a postal worker of pepper spraying her 10-year-old daughter, but the postal service claims the mail carrier was taking aim at the family's dog after it got loose.

The incident happened Monday, December 10 while Haylee Brown was trying to restrain her one-year-old boxer after she got loose.

The postal carrier said he felt threatened by the dog and resorted to using pepper spray. He added that he was trying to spray the dog when Haylee came in contact with the residual mist from the pepper spray.

"It was not an accident. If you meant to spray my dog you would have sprayed my dog, not my daughter. He saw me taking care of the dog but he still sprayed and I don't know why," said Christina Brown, Haylee's Mother.

Haylee's parents have filed a police report and are now weighing their legal options.
