San Diegans win tickets to inauguration

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - President Obama will be sworn in again next month and a few lucky San Diegans will be there to watch.

Congresswoman Susan Davis' office held a random lottery to give out 70 pairs of tickets to the inauguration.

On Saturday, Congresswoman Davis met with those lucky constituents at a coffee house in La Mesa.

Some say they entered this lottery on a whim, never expecting to actually win tickets to the inauguration.

70 lucky constituents in the 53rd district each scored a coveted pair of tickets to the presidential inauguration next month.

Congresswoman Davis says about 400 constituents entered the lottery her office held and the winners were chosen randomly through a computer program.

In 2009, President Obama's first ‘swearing-in' drew record-breaking crowds in Washington, estimated at 1.8 million.

Next month's inauguration could exceed that. If any of the winners end up not being able to go to the inauguration, additional names will be randomly drawn from those original 400 entries.
