RANCHO SANTA FE (CBS8) - Deputies are searching for a pair of armed robbers who ransacked a multi-million dollar estate in Rancho Santa Fe Thursday afternoon, then handcuffed a housekeeper inside the home so she couldn't call for help.
While the owners of the $5 million home on the 5000 block of El Mirlo were away at the time, the couple's housekeeper was at home. She later told investigators that two men forced their way inside the secluded mansion at around noon. One of the men held her at gunpoint while his partner pillaged the 5-bedroom residence.
Before fleeing, the suspects handcuffed the woman, preventing her from immediately alerting authorities. Several hours later, one of the housekeeper's teenaged children, who had just arrived home, found her and called the authorities. The housekeeper was not injured, according to deputies.
"As far as we know - this is an isolated case," said Lt. Kenn Nelson of the San Diego Sheriff's Dept. "We are not aware of any series or any other similar crimes happening in the area."
The suspects are described as two white men in their mid- to late-20s. One of them was described as "tall" with long blond hair, while his accomplice was shorter and wore a baseball cap.
The two were seen driving in a light metallic-blue Kia or similar style vehicle.
Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
