SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A Fairmont area family is displaced Tuesday morning after a fire broke out in a child's bedroom, before consuming the entire house.

Four adults and two children managed to escape their burning home in the 3600 block of Van Dyke around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Neighbors say the family's grandfather rescued the kids before returning to fight the flames with a garden hose.

Firefighters arrived and knocked down the blaze in about 15 minutes. Most of the home was lost.

The kids and their grandfather were treated at the scene by paramedics, but the family's dog didn't make it.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
