SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Workers are racing against the clock to transform the field at Qualcomm Stadium into a race track for this weekend's Monster Energy Supercross motorcycle competition.
They had to bring in more than 1 million pounds of dirt to create the race track. With the threat of rain on Friday, workers are taking precautions to protect all of their hard work.
"It takes about 15 to 20 rolls of plastic to cover each lane, and it takes about three rolls per lane to cover it up. And we lay it so it overlaps the right way. So when we pull it off, water runs the direction we want it to," event manager Tim Phrend said.
Rain or shine, the Monster Energy supercross event takes place Saturday night at the Q.
