SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - We want to thank all of our generous News 8 viewers for helping to pay for a shelter dog's much-needed hip replacement surgery.
We first told you about Koa Wednesday. The German shepherd mix at Rancho Coastal Humane Society was suffering from a bad hip, and desperately needed surgery.
Koa underwent the procedure Wednesday at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital, and it was a complete success.
"It's been just less than 24 hours since Koa had surgery and he's already starting to use the leg pretty well. Probably will go home or go back to Rancho Coastal on Monday," Dr. Amber Hopkins said.
The surgery cost nearly $6,000. As of Thursday evening, News 8 viewers raised $5,800.
It should take Koa about six weeks to recover from surgery. Then he'll be available for adoption.
